2009 Economic Stimulus
Foley Lumber shares the following information regarding the 2009 Economic Stimulus as it relates to the homes and building industry:
STIMULUS PACKAGE / ENERGY CONSERVATION INCENTIVES
The recent adoption of the stimulus package has resulted in enhancing the energy conservation tax credits for 2009 and 2010. The allowable tax credits have increased to 30% of the cost for energy conservation products which qualify up to an aggregate amount for 2009 and 2010 not to exceed $1,500. One of the energy conservation items in the stimulus package is exterior windows, doors and skylights.
For exterior windows, doors and skylights to qualify they must achieve a U factor of .30 or lower and a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of .30 or lower. It is important to understand that windows, doors and skylight may be Energy Star rated although may not qualify for the tax incentives in the stimulus package. The reason for this is to be Energy Star certified for the northern zone a U factor of .34 or lower and any SHGC rating is required which is less stringent than the criteria to obtain tax credits in the stimulus package.
